The placement
Ninth on the Jazz chart of Cove’s August 2008 Editor’s List: “Timeline”, credited to Let It Come to You. The track is on that album’s MusicBrainz listing. He is the one instrumentalist in this pilot. He is included because the magazine put him on the same list as two singer-songwriters profiled here, Erin Bode at No. 5 and Alyssa Graham at No. 10. The editors’ method, as printed: Songs are rated by the Editors of Cove Magazine. This list is by no means world wide, since albums selected are normally released only in North America.

Five albums. The first three, 2006 to 2010, are all on Concord Jazz. After that comes an eleven-year gap in the MusicBrainz record, ending with Tree Falls (2021, GSI Records) and Plot Armor (2024, GroundUP Music).
What is documented since
The gap is the interesting part, and it is where the second source matters. Wikipedia credits him with two Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album: for Tree Falls at the 2023 ceremony and for Plot Armor at the 2025 one. Both are the post-gap albums in the table, released more than a decade after the magazine’s list.
Wikipedia also describes him as a long-serving teacher at the Stanford Jazz Workshop and a member of other leaders’ groups. MusicBrainz lists him in The Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Those sideman credits do not appear in the table, which shows only albums under his own name.
A note on scope
This archive’s artist pages mostly cover singers, which reflects what Cove mostly covered. A pianist is here because the magazine put him here. Where we include an act from outside pop, R&B and soul, it is because a Cove page put them in front of its readers, and we say which page.
