The new artists in Cove’s archive, 2001–2008
Cove was a new-music magazine, and many of the artists in its surviving pages were new when it wrote about them. Twenty of them, the lesser-known ones, now have a profile here: what Cove said at the time, and what the record shows since.

How these pages are made
Every profile starts from a Cove page that is still in the archive, and links to it. What the magazine said is quoted only where the words are the magazine’s own. Several archive pages reprinted reviews from other publications, and those are never quoted as Cove. Discographies come from MusicBrainz, whose core data is CC0, and are generated from a dated snapshot rather than typed. Background that MusicBrainz does not hold was confirmed against Wikipedia and is attributed on the page. Where a fact is not published, the page says so. There are no chart positions anywhere, because none of these pages has a chart source of its own to cite.
The selection leaves out the famous. The household names on the same Cove pages already have thorough coverage elsewhere; these artists mostly do not. That gap is the reason for these pages.
Breaking & Entering, 2006–2008
Cove’s section for artists who had not yet broken. Its surviving roster lists eighteen names; these three could be matched to a dated discography. The source page: Breaking & Entering (the roster page).
- Griffin House — Ohio singer-songwriter; MusicBrainz lists releases from Upland (2003) to The Tides (2023).
- Alexa Wilkinson — Singer-songwriter born in New Jersey; two albums, an EP and two singles, 2007–2011. The match to Cove’s roster is an inference, stated on the page.
The Editor’s List, August 2008
Eight genre lists of ten songs, rated by the magazine’s editors. These are the lesser-known acts on them; the household names are left out. The source page: The Editor’s List, August 2008.
- The Bridges — Alabama family band; “Echo”, from the debut Limits of the Sky (2008), was No. 8 on the Pop list.
- 21:03 — Detroit gospel and Christian R&B group; two songs from Total Attention (2008) at Nos. 4 and 5 on the Christian list.
- Black Kids — Jacksonville band; six of the ten places on the Alternative list, all from Partie Traumatic (2008).
- Erin Bode — Minnesota singer; “Sweater Song”, from The Little Garden (2008), was No. 5 on the Jazz list.
- Taylor Eigsti — Jazz pianist from Menlo Park; “Timeline” was No. 9 on the Jazz list. The one instrumentalist in this set.
- Francesca Battistelli — Christian pop singer; “Forever Love”, from My Paper Heart (2008), was No. 3 on the Christian list.
- Above the Golden State — Portland Christian rock band, later called Nations; “Loud and Clear” was No. 2 on the Christian list.
- pureNRG — Nashville Christian pop group, 2006–2011; “Any Which Way” was No. 8 on the Christian list.

- Lyfe Jennings — Toledo R&B and soul singer; five entries on Cove’s May 2008 hip hop list, by the magazine’s count.
- El Perro del Mar — Sarah Assbring’s Gothenburg project; named among the contenders on Cove’s May 2008 Pop list.

- Tweet — R&B singer from Rochester; Cove listed It’s Me Again as coming soon in March 2005.
- Frankie J — Mexican-American R&B singer; Cove listed The One as coming soon in March 2005.

Cove’s airplay-and-video chart of the decade so far. The lesser-known acts on it. The source page: The 100 Pop Songs of the New Millennium (2005).
- Blu Cantrell — Providence R&B singer; “Hit ’em Up Style” is on Cove’s 2005 list of the decade’s pop songs.
- Dream — Los Angeles girl group on Bad Boy; “He Loves U Not” is on the same 2005 list.
- O-Town — The Making the Band boy band; “All or Nothing” is on the same 2005 list.
Named by Cove, not profiled
These names are in the same archive pages, but there was not enough published, checkable information to write a page that would not be padding or guesswork. Each line says why. If better sources turn up, they can be added.
- Justin Lanning (source) — Cove picked his first solo album, Behind These Eyes, as a favourite in July 2007. MusicBrainz lists that album without a date and nothing else, which is too little for a sourced page.
- Mishon (source) — “Excuse Me Mama” was No. 6 on the August 2008 R&B list. MusicBrainz has no release of that title, and we could not match the name to one artist with confidence.
- David Sides (source) — On the Breaking & Entering roster. The only David Sides in MusicBrainz is credited with two piano collections from 2014 and 2016, and nothing published ties that artist to Cove’s 2006–2008 roster.
- Jared Lee (source) — On the roster. MusicBrainz’s Boston singer of that name has releases from 2010 onwards; nothing ties him to the roster.
- Renaissanz (source) — On the roster. MusicBrainz lists one album, Renaissanz Era (2006, Ren Jam Records), and nothing that would confirm the match or support a page.
- James Cappra (source) — On the roster. MusicBrainz has an entry under this name but no releases.
- Cylia (source) — On the roster. MusicBrainz’s Cylia is a French singer with releases on Mercury; nothing ties her to Cove’s roster.
- Julius (source) — Cove’s 2006 interview with this Miami singer and producer survives; no discography was found.
- Rashod Holmes (source) — Cove’s interview with this R&B singer survives; no discography was found.
- Starla Gladden, Nate McDonough, Sebastian, Lasette, Johanna Stahley, Ameer, Tippy and Corinne Vielle (source) — The rest of the roster. None could be matched to a discography; for the single-word names, MusicBrainz holds many unrelated artists of the same name.
Where to go next
The famous names from the same years are covered differently: as entries in The Cove 100, scored with a published method, and in the 25 best debut albums of the 2000s. The magazine’s own pages are listed on the archive home page.
