What Cove said

Cove’s Chart Chat for 10 July 2007 reviewed the soundtrack to the film Hairspray, which held No. 1 on the magazine’s chart that week, Cove said, with “You Can’t Stop the Beat”. In a list of who sings on the disc, the magazine named Zac Efron, Nikki Blonsky and Aimee Allen alongside actors who lend their singing talents to the disc as well. Its verdict on the album was mixed. It called it fun but felt it drew some of the richness out of the original.

The page does not say which song is hers. MusicBrainz does: a recording titled “Cooties”, credited to Aimee Allen, appears on Hairspray: Soundtrack to the Motion Picture. It is the same MusicBrainz artist whose discography is below, so the identification is not a guess.

Two albums and a run of singles. The 2003 debut, I’d Start a Revolution (If I Could Get Up in the Morning), is on Elektra. The second album, A Little Happiness (2009), is on Side Tracked Records. After that she released singles only. The 2010 single titled after a presidential campaign is listed here as MusicBrainz records it.

The Interrupters

The most significant entry is not in the table. MusicBrainz lists her as a member of The Interrupters from 2012. Wikipedia says she sings with that ska-punk band under the name Aimee Interrupter, and lists collaborations with a long roster of rock and punk musicians. The band’s releases are under its own name and fall outside this page. Her two most recent solo singles, in 2022 and 2025, carry Dine Alone Records.

MusicBrainz gives Missoula as her place of origin, and Wikipedia describes her as based in Los Angeles.

Why the page exists

Cove’s Chart Chat page was about two other acts: Aly & AJ and the singer Justin Lanning, whose records MusicBrainz barely documents (he is on the new-artists page instead). Aimee Allen was a passing name in a soundtrack paragraph, beside film stars. Her career is a clear case of a singer changing direction after Cove’s time: from a solo pop debut on a major label to a punk band. A different route out of 2007 is Jessica Harp’s, from a duo to a solo deal to songwriting.
