Cove’s listing

The “Coming Soon” panel on Cove’s New Music Tuesdays page, from early March 2005, lists Frankie J. - One. MusicBrainz has no release by him called One. It does have The One, released on Columbia on 22 March 2005, and that is clearly the album meant. The same panel listed Tweet’s It’s Me Again, which MusicBrainz dates one day earlier. The page gives no comment on either. Its review quotations are credited to other publications and are not Cove’s.

MusicBrainz lists 35 release groups, most of them singles. The table shows albums and EPs only. Two albums are dated 2003: What’s a Man to Do? in May and Frankie J in July, both on Columbia. Wikipedia names the former as his solo debut. We have not established how the two relate, and the table shows both as MusicBrainz records them.

Two languages

The titles tell the story without commentary. Un nuevo día (2006), Faith, Hope y Amor (2013), Sangria (2017) and Canciones que recuerdo (2020) sit among the English-language albums, and several singles carry both an English and a Spanish title. Wikipedia describes him as releasing albums in both languages after his debut. It records a Grammy nomination for Faith, Hope y Amor, for Best Latin Pop Album.

Before and after

According to Wikipedia, he recorded freestyle under the name Frankie Boy in the late 1990s and was a member of the Kumbia Kings before going solo. MusicBrainz begins his solo record in 2003 and shows the Columbia years ending with Priceless (2006, Sony Music). After that come a run of small labels, SpatulaCity, Soul Sick Records and SoulSick Muzik, and Faith, Hope y Amor on Universal Music Latino. The latest album in the table is Back2us (2022), and the latest single MusicBrainz holds is from 2023.

Of the two Coming Soon artists profiled here, he is the one with the larger catalogue since. The other R&B entries in this archive set include Blu Cantrell and Lyfe Jennings.
